Ok, I have the pass and somewhere to sleep, so what about the games!? |
|
Dude, Gen Con UK 2004 is all about the gaming, you didn't think we'd forget about that did you?
|
|
We have lots of games and events planned for you lucky people which does take a little planning.
Once we have a final schedule of events, we'll let you all know so that you can start planning
your 4 days of gaming with us!
Tickets for games can be pre-ordered via our web ordering system
when you book your delegate pass, or you can buy them once
you've arrived at Gen Con UK 2004 itself.
Remember though, the earlier you book, the more chance you have of getting into the game you want!
If you have a specific query about a particular game or game system,
then you need to contact the organisers of that game directly.
Their contact details can be found in the Delegate Pack.
|
| |
| |
 |
Got my pass, somewhere to sleep and the games I want. Oh, I know, what about food? |
|
Everyone needs to eat, especially gamers!
|
|
There are two food outlets inside the arena that sell snack food,
as well as a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
The Butlins site also contains a number of fast food outlets and
restaurants that cater for all types of dietary requirements.
Again, the Delegate Pack
contains more details on the food and drink available.
|
| |
| |
 |
My family/partner wants to come along too but don't game, is that ok? |
|
Sure dude, you can bring the non-gamers along with you.
|
|
Make sure they're booked into the accommodation and they
can enjoy the full range of the Butlins Minehead
facilities (just like you can as well!); just make sure
they have a delegate pass if they want to get into the
arena! Better still, kids eight or under get free access
to the Gen Con UK Arena
|
| |
| |
 |
Gen Con UK 2004 is in October, in an arena and near the coast..won't it get cold? |
|
Hey, even we can't control what the weather will do!
|
|
The arena is fully heated by giant roof high space heaters,
though it is recommended that you bring some warm clothing,
just in case, or, if you prefer travelling light, you
can pick up some of the Gen Con UK 2004 merchandise which is
designed with chilly weather in mind!
One small point though dudes; sometimes clothing can whiff a bit
if worn for days on end-we recommend changing it and having a
shower, but you knew that already, right?
|
| |
| |
 |
I
have a lot of stuff to bring to the arena for my games but don't want
to carry it around with me all the time. Is there a cloak room for bag
storage? |
|
|
Y'know, we'd love to able to provide one of those but we figured
that the more space we allow for playing games, the better it'd
be. Perhaps the best thing to do is to bring along the minimum
you need for your games or share heavy things (like a stack of
rule books) with someone else you're attending with.
We do recommend that you keep your bag with you at all times
though as we cannot be held responsible for anything that goes
missing and we certainly don't want any security alerts; kinda
ruins the gaming don't ya think?
|
| |
| |
 |
Previous Gen Con UK's have always been noisy, is this one going to be the same? |
|
Hey y'know, you can never ever get a perfectly silent game
because as soon as one person starts speaking or a set of dice
starts rolling you have noise.
|
|
We have done everything we can to cut down on noise; the use of partitions,
using generally quiet games as buffer zones between noisy games are just two
examples but sometimes even that may not be enough.
If you find you have a problem with a particular table that seems to making
a lot of noise, try asking them to quieten down a little, after all,
everyone wants to enjoy the games at Gen Con UK 2004.
Above all though, think about the other tables around you before yelling out
loud that you have the winning card in Munchkin or are about to behead the
11 headed snorkel wearing hydra with your spoon of doom.
|
| |
| |
 |
What do I do if I hurt myself, or one of my friends does, or we get sick? |
|
Harsh!
|
|
As soon as possible you should contact one of the Gen Con UK
2004 Crew members (easily identifiable by the red tops they're
wearing) or Butlins Staff and they'll arrange first aid for you
if needed.
You could help the situation too (as could everyone else) by not
causing a hazard where people could trip over or something - the
more time you spend in recovery, the less time for gaming!
But try not to bleed or blow chunks on someone's character
sheet; makes it tough to read.
Umm, the dudes in suits are asking me to point out that Horsemen
Events Ltd and Butlins cannot be held responsible for any injury
or death that may occur to you whilst on site.
And the suits don't look that good on them either.
|
| |
| |
 |
What bar will the celebrities be at? |
|
Both of them probably! (Though not at the same time, unless they
have mastered quantum physics in some way). Unless they're
working of course too, mustn't forget that!
|
|
Be aware though, that even though they are celebrities and are
here to entertain/draw/speak/perform other functions (wonder
if that involves juggling chainsaw wielding sea lions Ed.) they
too have a right to some quiet time and privacy and may not
appreciate being interrupted.

 |
What room is Smiffy/Peter Adkison/The Guests/??? staying in? |
|
Hey man, that's like so easy to answer!
Smiffy is in room
|
|
Obviously we can't really tell you where people are staying;
something to do with the fact that people may like to sleep
without being disturbed by hordes of gamers wanting to ask
questions at 4am. I'm sure you understand!
|
| |
| |
 |
I've lost my delegate goodie bag can I have another one? |
|
Doh! Clumsy of you!
|
|
The Delegate Goodie Bags are quite special this year and in
limited supply, so unfortunately we can only give one per person
- take more care next time!
|
| |
| |
 |
What do I do if someone nicks my stuff? |
|
Man, that sucks! Some people have no respect for other people's
property!
|
|
First off, make sure it was stolen and that you haven't
accidentally left it somewhere. Next check at the Customer
Services desk in the Arena to see if someone has handed it in.
Finally, contact one of the security stations and describe
precisely what was stolen (the better the description, the more
chance you have of spotting someone else carrying it around).
Above all, and I really hate stating the obvious; keep your
property with you at all times!
|
| |
| |
 |
I just had my 3,000 card deck stolen, when are you going to replace it? |
|
Oh man, 3,000 cards? That must've taken you ages to acquire, not
to mention a large wedge of cash! Bummer!
|
|
Basically, we aren't going to replace it. It's not our
responsibility to look after it, it's yours. Sorry!
Oh boy, the dudes in suits are asking me to point out (again!)
that Horsemen Events Ltd and Butlins cannot be held responsible
for any loss, damage, or theft of property that may occur whilst
on site.
And the suits still don't look that good on them either.
|
| |
| |
 |
Where're the toilets? |
|
Depends where you are when you ask! (Ba-dom tishhhh!!)
|
|
The toilets are listed quite clearly on the map (provided in the
Gen Con UK 2004 Programme, which will also be available for download from here)
and are well signposted.
|
| |
| |
 |
I missed my train and couldn't get to the event; can I have my money back? |
|
Oh man, typical British trains huh?
|
|
Unfortunately, whilst we can sympathise with you over the loss
of your granny (who may have expired swallowing a broken biro
whilst over feeding the cat because you were unable to manage it
due to the serious malaise that's settled on you since your
girlfriend left you after blowing up the car (collapsing the
house onto some soap in the process)) we can only say the
following:
- Accommodation refunds are dealt with solely by Butlins;
and enquiries to Horsemen Events Ltd will be politely referred
to the men in Red Coats.
- Delegate Passes (for Gen Con UK 2004) and Game Tickets
(for events at Gen Con UK 2004) can only be refunded if you give us a
months' notice.
- Otherwise Game Tickets can be refunded at the Arena by those attending Gen Con UK 2004.
